What solar costs here, and what it gives back

Installed prices in Spain sit at €1,100 - €1,400 per kWp for residential work. Output below assumes a south-facing roof at around 30° on the Alicante or Málaga coast. Savings assume electricity at €0.22/kWh with 55 - 70% of generation used in the home and the rest exported.

Payback typically lands between 5 and 8 years without grants, and faster where you run air conditioning, a pool pump or a heat pump in daylight hours. Panels are normally warranted for 25 years of output, inverters for 10 - 12.

Two worked examples

Villa in Jávea · 6.5 kWp

Four-bed villa, air conditioning in three rooms, pool pump running mornings. €8,200 installed, around 10,800 kWh a year generated, roughly €1,650 off the annual electricity bill. Payback around 5 years.

Townhouse in Estepona · 3.5 kWp

Two-bed townhouse, occupied most of the year, no pool. €4,600 installed, around 5,800 kWh a year, roughly €820 saved annually. Payback around 5.5 years, with a measurable improvement in the EPC energy score.

What affects your figure

Roof orientation and pitch — west-facing roofs lose around 10 - 15% but match evening use better
Shading from neighbouring villas, palms or a chimney, which we measure rather than estimate
How much you use during daylight: self-consumption is worth around €0.22/kWh, exported surplus far less
Flat roof and ballasted frames versus tile hooks, and the cable run to your meter
Panel and inverter quality, and whether a hybrid inverter is fitted now for a battery later
IBI and ICIO reductions offered by some ayuntamientos, plus IRPF deductions for energy-efficiency works — we confirm what is actually live in your municipality before quoting

How long the whole thing takes

01Week 1

Site visit and design

Roof survey, shading check and 12 months of your bills reviewed so the system is sized on real use, not a sales template.

02Week 1 - 2

Written quotation

Fixed price, panel and inverter make and model, expected annual output and a realistic payback figure.

031 - 2 days

Installation

Most homes here are a single-day job. Larger villas with two roof planes or a long cable route take two.

042 - 8 weeks

Boletín and legalisation

Electrical certificate, registration with the regional authority and the surplus agreement with your supplier. Your panels generate from day one.

051 - 2 billing cycles

Surplus credit on your bill

Once compensación de excedentes is active, exported energy appears as a credit on each bill.
